Along the Arno for views and proximity to the main sights; around the Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica for the heart of the city; and in the villa districts – Fiesole or the Boboli area, for instance – if seclusion is a priority.
Spring and autumn are busy, so four to six months ahead is sensible, particularly for suites or rooms with Arno views. In winter, two to three months is usually sufficient.
Most properties can accommodate families with extra beds, children's menus and larger rooms. That said, always check age restrictions for the spa and pool before you book.
