Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — the purest luxury category on the island is dominated by five-star properties. There are also a number of four-star boutique hotels with a clear premium feel, but the very top of the market is defined principally by five-star establishments.
The most sought-after addresses are concentrated around Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio and Calvi. It is in these areas that the combination of sea views, private beach access, fine dining and high hotel standards is at its most compelling.
Many of the most exclusive properties either sit directly on the shore, occupy their own private cove or enjoy very easy access to the sea. A private beach is not guaranteed across the board, but it is a common and highly valued premium feature on the island.
May, June and September tend to offer the most well-rounded experience — pleasant weather, good availability and a rather more relaxed atmosphere than the height of summer. July and August suit those whose priority is sea, sun and the full beach experience.
For July and August, booking several months ahead is strongly advisable — particularly if you have your heart set on a suite, a private pool or a property in Porto-Vecchio or Bonifacio. During the shoulder season, shorter notice can sometimes suffice, though the finest rooms invariably go first.
Very much so. Gastronomy is frequently one of the principal reasons to choose a luxury hotel on the island. Many properties invest seriously in restaurants with strong local roots, the finest seasonal ingredients and thoughtfully curated wine lists.
Corsica is generally experienced as more closely connected to nature, more intimate in scale and less given to display than the classic Riviera destinations. Luxury here is more a matter of privacy, landscape, gastronomy and personal service than of spectacle and status.
