TORTUE Hamburg brings a French-inspired, design-led feel to the Neustadt, a minute from Neuer Wall and five from Jungfernstieg. The interiors by Stephen Williams and Kate Hume are soft and layered, and the individually styled rooms look onto the hotel's inner courtyards. Guests speak most warmly about the location, the friendly and professional staff and a breakfast in the brasserie that many count among the highlights of the trip, while three restaurants and five bars mean evenings can start and end in the house. The trade-offs are mostly about space and busy moments. The petite rooms are genuinely small, breakfast can mean a short queue and closely set tables, and a few guests ran into air conditioning or in-room tablets that did not work as they should. For a short city break with shopping, food and the Alster within easy reach, it is a lively and well-run base; anyone who needs room to spread out should book a larger category.
