Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels
GRAND ELYSEE Hamburg is a big, full-service five-star hotel for travellers who want everything under one roof. It stands in Rotherbaum, 400 metres from Dammtor station and within a short walk of the Alster, and guests praise the location, the friendly and professional staff, and rooms that are spacious, comfortable and kept spotless. The 1,000 m² spa, with an indoor pool, saunas and a hot tub, is what sets it apart, and three restaurants, a café and several bars, one with live jazz, mean you rarely need to go out to eat. The weak spot is value. Prices are high, and guests notice when the details slip: a breakfast buffet some find short on healthier options, coffee that has to be ordered at busy times, and a front desk that can be slow or a little abrupt. If a central, well-connected base with a proper spa is what you need, it delivers; if you are counting every euro, Hamburg has more modest options.
Guests score it 8.9 out of 10 — the average across the 10 hotels we list in Hamburg is 9.1.
What Guests Loved
- The 1,000 m² Elyseum spa is a highlight for many guests. They mention the indoor pool, the hot tub, the saunas and the gym, and one guest described a massage there as wonderfully calming.
- Dammtor station and the CCH are 400 metres away, the Alster and Jungfernstieg are within a short walk, and guests appreciate the easy access to trains, taxis and public transport, as well as the green park next door.
Things to Consider
- Value for money is the point guests rate lowest. Several find the prices high, and one missed an evening turndown service at this level.
- Some guests would like healthier choices at the buffet, one found bread that was hard and a toaster that did not work, and coffee and tea are ordered from the staff, which means waiting when it is busy.
Should you book it?
GRAND ELYSEE Hamburg is worth booking for travellers arriving by train or attending events at the CCH — but pick somewhere else if you are looking for good value above all.
