Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Ideal for travellers seeking historic Venetian charm right on the main waterway, The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice earns exceptional reviews from guests on Booking.com and Google. Guests benefit from restored fifteenth-century noble interiors, unobstructed Grand Canal terrace views, an on-site Acqua di Parma spa, and traditional Venetian culinary experiences. However, the fitness centre has modest dimensions, and there is limited availability for canal-facing rooms.
Guests score it 9.5 out of 10 — the average across the 17 hotels we list in Venice is 9.4.
The 30-second verdict
What Guests Loved
- The hotel occupies a primary position on the Grand Canal, offering a terrace with views of Santa Maria della Salute. This allows guests to observe the waterway's activity from a quiet, elevated vantage point.
- Each guest room functions as a gallery of Venetian craft, featuring period-correct antiques and hand-blown Murano glass. The 2013 restoration meticulously preserved the building’s heritage while upgrading the internal infrastructure.
Things to Consider
- Because of the architectural constraints of the historic palazzo, the gym is smaller than those found in contemporary hotels. While functional, it may not satisfy guests requiring an extensive range of heavy equipment.
- The most sought-after views are confined to a specific number of rooms, which often reach capacity months in advance. Travelers booking later may find themselves in city-facing rooms that lack the iconic canal panorama.
Should you book it?

Perfectly situated, the hotel is just a short five-minute walk from the renowned La Fenice opera house and about 500 meters from St. Mark’s Square. The nearby Santa Maria del Giglio vaporetto stop provides convenient access to the rest of Venice. Culinary highlights await at the hotel’s Club del Doge restaurant, where dishes are prepared using fresh ingredients sourced from the famous Rialto Market. “What a beautiful hotel and heartwarming place to stay at! We came here for our babymoon, and the hotel prepared a lovely gift for our unborn baby. We also received a beautiful rose bouquet on my birthday, with a long handwritten message. The staffs are really nice, providing top notch services and really going above and beyond to make sure we feel like home the entire stay there. The hotel has a large patio, one side as a restaurant and the other side as a bar. You can choose to have your breakfast on the patio everyday while enjoying the gorgeous view of the Grand Canal and Basilica Santa Maria della Salute. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone who’s considering a once in a lifetime visit to Venice!”
“There are hotels with impressive interiors, beautiful views, or famous names. And then there are places like The Gritti Palace — where hospitality becomes something deeply personal and almost impossible to describe properly. Its not one spectacular moment, but the feeling of being genuinely cared for from the very first second. You arrive, and somehow everyone already understands your rhythm, your needs, your preferences — often before you even ask. The concierge team, reception, housekeeping, the bar, Club del Doge restaurant — every single person contributes to this atmosphere of effortless elegance and warmth. I stayed alone during this trip, and perhaps because of that, I felt their attention and kindness even more deeply. There was never a moment where something felt forced or performative. Everything was simply done beautifully, naturally, with pleasure and generosity. This is very rare luxury today. It is difficult to name one or two people because the level of care was consistently exceptional everywhere. Perfect housekeeping, immaculate rooms, thoughtful details, seamless service, incredible comfort. I was lucky enough to stay in two different rooms, including a suite, and honestly, I struggle to imagine what could have been done better. What makes The Gritti Palace special is not “service” in the traditional sense. It is the feeling that you belong there. That you are not treated like a hotel guest, but like someone truly welcomed into a Venetian home with history, soul, and extraordinary standards. In a world where many luxury hotels try very hard to impress, The Gritti Palace does something much more difficult: it makes everything feel effortless. One of the most memorable hospitality experiences I have ever had.”
“An absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. Due to a flight disruption, we were worried about missing our reservation, but the team was incredibly helpful and responsive. They kindly accommodated our delay and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The staff were exceptionally professional, attentive, and friendly. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and exceeded our expectations. The setting and views were simply breathtaking, making the entire experience even more special. Thank you to the whole team for your outstanding hospitality. We had a fantastic afternoon and created wonderful memories. We would highly recommend The Gritti Terrace to anyone visiting Venice and look forward to returning in the future.”
“An unforgettable stay right on the Grand Canal - The Gritti Palace. This historic hotel is absolutely stunning—full of classic Venetian charm while still feeling comfortable and refined. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. A special thank you to Geraldine for going above and beyond to make our stay so memorable, and to Gianmarco, Antonella, and Alessandro for their kindness throughout. Highlights included breakfast by the water, drinks at the bar, and simply soaking in the atmosphere of such a beautiful and iconic space. The room was elegant, the bed very comfortable, and every detail felt thoughtfully curated. Even if you’re not staying overnight, it’s worth visiting for a drink. Truly a special experience—highly recommend.”
