Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Charmante Skostredet Hôtel is for travellers who want the hotel itself to be part of the trip. The interiors are lavish and French in spirit, and guests repeatedly say they felt transported to old Paris. The location on Skostredet puts restaurants, cafés, the cathedral and the fish market within an easy walk, and the staff are praised for warm, personal service. Breakfast is ordered from a menu, with champagne and fresh pastries, and the in-house brasserie serves French cooking through the day. The trade-offs are small but worth knowing. The street is lively, and a light sleeper may hear guests coming home late. Rooms have no TV, the lighting is on the dim side and the heating and air conditioning can take some figuring out. Couples and design lovers on a Bergen city break will find a memorable, central base; travellers who want a plain, bright room and complete quiet may prefer somewhere more conventional.
Guests score it 9.1 out of 10 — the average across the 4 hotels we list in Bergen is 8.9.
What Guests Loved
- The decor is what guests talk about most. Several say they felt transported to old Paris, and many describe every corner of the building as considered down to the last detail.
- Skostredet is a lively street with restaurants and cafés on the doorstep, Bergen Cathedral is about 200 metres away, and guests walk to the fish market, the ferry quays, shops and bars.
Things to Consider
- The central street is part of the appeal, but a guest was woken by other guests returning late after a night out. Light sleepers may want to ask for a quieter room.
- Some guests found the room lighting too dim for comfort, and a few struggled to get the temperature right, with the air conditioning running warm or the room feeling cool until they worked out the heating.
Should you book it?
Charmante Skostredet Hôtel is worth booking for couples on a romantic city break in Bergen — but pick somewhere else if you sleep lightly and want total quiet at night.
