Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels
The Dorchester is for travellers who want classic London luxury with service that feels personal. It stands on Park Lane in Mayfair, overlooking Hyde Park, with Knightsbridge a 10-minute walk away and Mayfair and Soho easy to explore on foot. Guests speak most warmly about the staff, from the doorman to the team who check you in at your room, and about very comfortable beds, the renovated rooms and a breakfast that many single out. Alain Ducasse's Michelin-starred restaurant, The Grill by Tom Booton, afternoon tea in The Promenade and the Vesper Bar give plenty of reasons to stay in for the evening. The trade-offs are modest but worth knowing. The spa pool and sauna are at 45 Park Lane next door, the smallest rooms can be tight for two with luggage, and service in the restaurants is occasionally slower than the rest of the stay. For a polished stay by the park, it lives up to its reputation.
Guests score it 9.5 out of 10 — the average across the 23 hotels we list in London is 9.3.
What Guests Loved
- The staff are the most praised part of a stay. Guests describe them as polished and attentive, from the doorman to the team who escort you to your room for check-in, and mention touches such as being met at the station or having a birthday made special.
- The hotel stands on Park Lane in Mayfair, between Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner, with Hyde Park across the road. Knightsbridge is a 10-minute walk away, and guests find it an easy base for exploring Mayfair and Soho on foot.
Things to Consider
- The Dorchester Spa offers beauty treatments, a fitness centre and a relaxation room, but guests point out that the spa pool and sauna are at 45 Park Lane, the neighbouring hotel, rather than in The Dorchester itself.
- Most guests find their rooms spacious, but an entry-level room can be too small for two people's luggage. Guests also rate value for money less generously than service, comfort or cleanliness.
