Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels

With its specialised thalassotherapy spa, Hotel Capo d'Orso Thalasso & SPA is tailored for relaxation seekers. Guests benefit from a private pier, four distinct dining venues, and direct access to two sheltered beaches. However, the resort occupies an isolated location far from Palau town.

Situated on a rugged peninsula in northern Sardinia, Hotel Capo d'Orso Thalasso & SPA is a refined retreat centered on maritime wellness and privacy. The property is particularly well-suited for travelers who prioritize direct sea access and a quiet environment away from more crowded tourist hubs.

Guests score it 9.3 out of 10 — the average across the 11 hotels we list on Sardinia is 9.0.

  • The property is situated between two intimate beaches, Cala Capra and Cala Selvaggia, which are naturally protected from the wind. This positioning provides guests with calm, clear waters and a choice of different coastal environments within walking distance.
  • The wellness center specializes in thalassotherapy, utilizing heated seawater in several outdoor pools overlooking the ocean. These facilities are designed to harness marine minerals for therapeutic benefit, providing a more focused experience than standard hotel spas.

“This hotel gave me “white lotus” vibes, in a good way. We had a junior sea view suite for 4 nights. The room had two half baths, one with a shower and 2 vanities, the other had a toilet, bidet and one sink; and a bed area, and a living area with a sofa. The balcony was the full length of the space. Since it was our honeymoon we utilized the spa, private pools, and sauna which was very nice. The hotel has a lot of meandering pathways and stairs, and sea views. I don’t think the paths would be good for anyone with mobility issues or small children. The food was good - we enjoyed a sunset dinner down on their dock. We also found the (hidden?) pathway to access the cove beach to the north, which was incredible for snorkeling - we saw a lot of marine life up close. They also have a beach near their marina. Palau is nearby for services, tourist shopping, and pizza. There was live music on most evenings. All in all, the hotel was a beautiful place and all the service was excellent. It was very pricey though, so a special stop.”

“We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Capo d’Orso. If your budget allows, I highly recommend booking an Ocean View room. It makes such a difference—the balcony is incredible, and waking up to that view every morning was one of the highlights of our trip. The service is genuinely exceptional. During a boat trip, my husband injured his foot. I called the front desk just asking if they could send up a little ice. They greeted me by name, and less than five minutes later, the hotel manager herself was at our door with the ice, asking if there was anything else they could do to help. That level of care and attention is something you don’t come across very often. The housekeeping deserves a special mention as well. They seem to clean the room twice a day, and somehow every time we left the room—even just after taking a shower—we’d come back to everything spotless, with fresh towels and the room perfectly reset. It made the whole stay feel incredibly luxurious. The private beach is beautiful and feels almost like an exclusive beach club. There are comfortable sun loungers, it’s never crowded, and it’s the perfect place to spend the day relaxing. The food is excellent as well. The hotel has several restaurants at different price points, so it’s easy to find something that fits what you’re looking for, and every meal we had was delicious. Another huge advantage is the location. It’s just a few minutes from Palau, so it’s incredibly easy to head into town for dinner, drinks, or a stroll in the evening while still enjoying the peace and beauty of the hotel. We would absolutely stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.”

“This hotel was like paradise! A very natural and rustic, almost magical feel all over the property. Stone paths and terraces with mature plantings and beautiful flowers everywhere. Felt very quiet and private. We loved the unique terraced areas for sunbathing that were dotted along the edge of the rocky shore, and the swimming out to the floating dock. Not a place for people with any mobility issues. The walk up to our room was worth it for the view from the balcony. The room itself was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the harp player each morning was lovely. The wasps mentioned in other reviews are still there, but the food on the buffet is now all covered. And they give each table a device that emits smoke to keep them away. A small nuisance for such a beautiful location. The main restaurant was exceptional for dinner. We enjoyed our conversations with the restaurant’s lovely staff. The manager of the hotel, and all of the employees, were especially welcoming and genuinely friendly. We look forward to returning.”

“I had such an amazing stay at this hotel! The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, and the hotel itself is beautiful. It fits perfectly into the Sardinian landscape and is right on the water with incredible views. The grounds are full of lush trees and flowers, which made it feel so peaceful. The food was also so delicious, I loved every meal. I enjoyed every part of my stay and will definitely be coming back!”

“This is one of the most unique and incredible hotels I’ve ever stayed at. They have managed immerse this hotel into nature so perfectly while also providing the service/facilities of a 5 star hotel. If you’re looking for a romantic, peaceful vacation - this is the spot. Whether you’re at the spa or laying by the ocean surrounded by butterflies, every corner and detail has been well thought out. The food at all of the restaurants is top notch and provides enough variety that we didn’t even want to leave during our stay. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay amazing (thank you Luca, Sonia, Cristi, Angelo). Cannot wait to be back.”
