Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews

Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels

Perfect for travellers wanting a quiet, residential retreat in the city. Ett Hem ranks among the most admired stays in the city on both Booking.com and Google. Set in quiet Östermalm, it offers an intimate courtyard with garden seating and a kitchen-centric communal dining experience alongside curated modern Scandinavian interior design. On the downside, the hotel is situated at a distance from the central business district, and its small scale results in limited availability.

Ett Hem occupies a restored townhouse in Stockholm's refined Östermalm neighborhood, offering a stay that mimics a private residence. Its design-led interiors and communal dining spaces create an atmosphere of understated luxury. The property is suited for travelers seeking discretion and a residential feel over traditional grand hotel services.

Guests score it 9.7 out of 10 — the average across the 10 hotels we list in Stockholm is 9.0.

  • Housed in a 1910 Arts and Crafts townhouse, the property maintains the feel of a private residence rather than a traditional hotel. This layout prioritizes guest privacy and comfort within a quiet residential neighborhood.
  • The secluded courtyard acts as a garden sanctuary, featuring several brick-paved areas and lush greenery. It provides a quiet transition between the urban surroundings and the property's intimate interior spaces.

“Within a few hours, this became one of our favorite boutique hotels in the world. From the moment you walk through the gate into the garden, you have a sense of warmth and place. It really is a destination unto itself and we didn’t want to leave. From the moment you have a tour of the property, you feel welcome into someone’s home. Each area is unique, the art on the walls is amazing, there is nothing mundane or generic about it. We had plans that we cancelled to spend time reading and playing games in the wonderful seating areas while sipping drinks from the honor bar. So many hotels are grand or beautiful but lack soul and warmth. Ett Hem (meaning “at home”) envelops you and makes you feel welcome. Highly recommended (but note the location may not be for everyone). We will definitely return!”

“A truly wonderful stay. I felt like coming home. I stayed for one night and it was a fantastic experience. Although we arrived early on the day of check-in, the staff welcomed us warmly and even served a wonderful breakfast. The team is so kind and hospitable that we felt like we were back at our family home. The lunch was also exceptional (note: advance booking is required). Both the rooms and the entire building are beautifully designed, with charming art pieces everywhere. There are also drinks available throughout the hotel, making it easy to truly relax. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Stockholm.”

“Super charming, it is a unique property and they really make the experience feel like you’re in a home not a hotel (no menu, you ask for things and chef makes it, lots of open lounging areas, you make your own drink at the bars, staff mingling among guests etc). It’s very aesthetic and clearly they take a lot of pride and care for attention to detail. I have stayed 2 different times and in different room types, and I will say it makes a a big difference. The small room for the price doesn’t really feel like the best value or getting the full experience so I’d only go for the larger room.”

“Some of the negative reviews honestly surprised me, because my experience was absolutely wonderful. I came to celebrate my 25th birthday with my girlfriend and we had an amazing evening from start to finish. The welcome was warm, the staff was incredibly kind, the service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. The wine was excellent as well. A big thank you to the whole team for such a memorable experience. We will definitely come back!”

“Went for dinner. If you combine the ambience of 'La Bastide de Moustiers' in Provence by Alain Ducasse and its rural but sophisticated cooking style, with the best produce Sweden has to offer, cooked cleverly, and the hospitality of Noma in Copenhagen, and place it in Stockholm, you get the restaurant at Ett Hem. There may only be this place in the world offering this level of excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful setting with the best of Swedish hospitality. Thank you!”
