France: which destination suits you?
Not every place suits every trip. Here is how the destinations differ, with the hotels we list in each and the guides that narrow the choice further.
Islands1
Cities1
Paris
20 hotelsThe palace hotels of the Right Bank, the boutique addresses of Saint-Germain and one of Europe's widest luxury choices. Choose by neighbourhood, not by star count; prices are among Europe's highest.
Coast2
Nice
8 hotelsThe Riviera's capital: Belle Époque hotels on the Promenade, a pebble beach and the whole coast within reach by train. Right for a city-and-sea break; sand lovers should know the beach is stones.
Cannes
6 hotelsThe Croisette's grand hotels with private beach clubs, sandy shore and film-festival polish. Best for couples who want to be seen; quieter and cheaper stays lie along the coast.

Frequently Asked Questions
Paris features 20 hotels, including Hôtel Plaza Athénée - Dorchester Collection with its Dior Spa. Nice offers 8 hotels, such as Hotel Le Negresco with its 9.7 booking score. Cannes offers 7 properties, including Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, while Corsica has 7 hotels, such as Hôtel Marinca & Spa which features 3 swimming pools.
Both are 5-star properties. Hotel Le Negresco is located on the Promenade des Anglais beachfront, offering Michelin-starred dining, though its ornate style may feel dated. Alternatively, Hôtel du Couvent, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nice features quiet gardens, historic convent architecture, and Roman-inspired thermal baths, but has limited vehicular access.
Hôtel Marinca & Spa offers private beach access on the Valinco Gulf alongside 3 swimming pools. Grand Hôtel De Cala Rossa & Spa Nucca also features a private beach with pleasure boat excursions. Both are 5-star resorts, but Hôtel Marinca & Spa requires a private vehicle due to its isolated location.
Located in the Avenue Montaigne fashion district, this 5-star hotel features a Dior Spa partnership and signature Art Deco interiors. While travellers enjoy its palace-grade service, the atmosphere is highly formal and guests should expect premium pricing across all services. Booking reviews highlight its quality with a score of 9.9.
For a historic seafront experience on Boulevard de la Croisette, you can choose Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, which preserves Belle Epoque architectural heritage. Alternatively, Hôtel Martinez, in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt features historic Art Deco architecture. Both 5-star hotels offer private beach clubs but require daily surcharges or premium pricing for beach amenities.
