Frequently Asked Questions

Dubrovnik leads, with hotels on the cliffs around the walled old town, Hvar is the glamorous heart of the islands, and Split combines the history of Diocletian's Palace with a growing boutique-hotel scene.
Dubrovnik for iconic views and history — and hotels with the Adriatic directly below your balcony. Hvar for island life, with luxury beach clubs and lavender landscapes both. Split for the best logistics: city, beach and island ferries in one.
May–September. July–August is warmest but also busiest, especially in Dubrovnik — June and September deliver the same sea temperatures with more pleasant old towns and better rates.
Five-star usually starts around €250–450 a night; Dubrovnik's cliff resorts run higher in peak season. Split and the mainland coast generally give you more for your money than Dubrovnik and Hvar.
Excellent — the Adriatic ferry network makes it easy to combine Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik in one trip. Many also charter a skippered boat between the islands; several luxury hotels arrange transfer boats and excursions.
The old town can get very full in the middle of the day in high season, when the cruise ships are in. The trick: stay at a luxury hotel just outside the walls with its own beach club, enjoy the town early morning and evening — and spend beach days on Lokrum or the Elaphiti islands.

Why stay at luxury hotels in Croatia?

  • Five-star standards and a strong international premium profile

  • Exceptional locations by the sea, within historic town centres, or across private resort grounds

  • Infinity pools, heated indoor pools, and well-appointed spa facilities

  • Cuisine with a distinct focus on Adriatic produce, Istrian truffles, and local wines

  • Design rooms and suites featuring terraces, sea views, or heritage character

  • Attentive personal service including concierge, transfers, boat excursions, and bespoke activities

Selection criterias

Ratings and standards

Our selection is drawn from hotels that clearly belong to Croatia's premium tier — principally five-star properties and well-established boutique addresses with a consistently high standard. In making our choices, we have taken into account international recognition, reliably strong guest reviews, and an overall quality across rooms, service, dining, and location. Hotels featured typically carry guest ratings of around 9.0 or above, and many appear in international travel guides and prestigious industry lists.

Unique advantages

Luxury in Croatia is not simply a matter of star ratings — it is about what a hotel genuinely delivers. We have therefore prioritised properties with tangible added value, such as infinity pools, spa facilities with hydrotherapy, private or semi-private bathing areas, restaurants with a serious gastronomic pedigree, interiors designed by acclaimed architects, terraces with sea views, historic palazzo settings, wine experiences, and private transfer or boat arrangements.

Location and accessibility

Location carries considerable weight in our selection. We have included hotels that are either positioned in prime coastal settings, in direct proximity to culturally and historically significant town centres, or in more secluded surroundings where peace and privacy form an integral part of the luxury experience. A truly outstanding luxury hotel in Croatia should either offer straightforward access to town life, marinas, and attractions, or provide a genuine sense of retreat — with nature, views, and seclusion as its defining appeal.
