Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Savoy Palace - The Leading Hotels of the World - Savoy Signature is best for travellers seeking a central Funchal base with extensive resort amenities. Warmly praised by guests on both Booking.com and Google, the hotel features four distinct swimming pools, a large spa inspired by local flora, and dedicated private beach access. Its central location places guests near Funchal's historic core. Note that the large guest capacity impacts overall intimacy, and specialty dining options incur a higher cost.
Guests score it 9.3 out of 10 — the average across the 6 hotels we list on Madeira is 9.3.
What Guests Loved
- The property features four separate swimming areas, including a heated indoor pool and an expansive main outdoor pool, ensuring ample space for both active swimming and quiet lounging.
- Guests benefit from a private coastal area that offers a more controlled and quiet environment for ocean access compared to the public lidos found elsewhere in Funchal.
Things to Consider
- With several hundred rooms and suites, the resort maintains a high-energy atmosphere during peak occupancy periods, which may not appeal to those seeking a small, boutique environment.
- The on-site culinary experiences are polished, though the pricing at the flagship restaurants reflects the hotel's premium status and may exceed the cost of similar local alternatives.

Reviews from Google“This is my fourth time visiting Madeira. I fell in love the first time and committed to becoming a vacation club member and have returned every year since, this is my third time staying at the savoy palace. I am so sad to write this review but I hope that others can find this helpful. The two times I stayed here before (2025 & 2024) the service, hotel, rooms and environment were impeccable, absolutely spectacular. I was so excited to come back, bringing another family with me and I am so sad to write that the service has been awful. The pool staff are so rude and I have no idea why! Rashana (forgive me if I have misspelt your name) was the only staff member who smiled, and took a correct order. I spoke with a member of staff from the vacation club team who took my complaint but nothing changed. We got Bali beds most days as I think it’s worth it but you do not get any service so you’re sat there waiting to spend money yet no one is coming to take a food or drinks order. This has been so disappointing and has really put me off coming back though I have no choice because I committed to vacation club. Please look at other places and reviews, you will see on trip advisor and Reddit that the service here is going downhill. Other great spots are : Casa do terrãco (For air BnB) Terra bona nature vineyard Reid’s palace I hope the service improves because other than the pool and the staff who are allocated to the pool area, this hotel is lovely. Good luck to anyone else who’s coming here soon!”
“Savoy Palace is a beautiful hotel with stunning facilities, attentive staff, and excellent housekeeping. Our room was impeccably cleaned each day and always looked wonderful when we returned. The property itself is elegant and well maintained, and the staff were consistently accommodating throughout our stay. There were a few minor issues that prevented this from being a perfect experience. One of the bathrooms near the outdoor pool had a persistent unpleasant odor during our stay, and on more than one occasion there were no paper towels available for guests to dry their hands. Also, I would have appreciated longer pool hours, as the outdoor pool closed at 7 PM and the indoor pool at 8 PM. Given the resort atmosphere and the long daylight hours during our visit, extending pool access later into the evening would have enhanced the guest experience. My larger criticism is that, despite the luxury setting, there were moments when my friend and I felt as though we were walking on eggshells. For example, one evening at the indoor pool, I went to a nearby bar and politely asked for a cup of ice. Rather than simply providing it, I was questioned about what it was for, where I was taking it, and whether I had first gone to the pool bar. While I was ultimately given the ice, the interaction felt unnecessarily restrictive and left me feeling as though I was asking for something inappropriate. Small interactions like this can affect the overall guest experience, particularly at a hotel of this caliber. Overall, I had a very enjoyable stay and would happily return. The hotel excels in many areas, but a slightly more relaxed and guest-focused approach in certain service interactions would make the experience even better.”
“Great hotel, the staff is amazing. The rooms are very clean and neat looking. The app helps you get around in the hotel but also in madeira itself. The breakfast is amazing. The prices are higher tbut that is to be expected for a five star hotel. Parking is not included and costs 10 euro per day.”
“One of the best hotels in the world. The staff is kind and always available to help. The kids club is the first where my kid actually wants to go. The restaurants are amazing, the rooms are confortable, clean and luxurious. The view is breath taking and the location amazing where you are at walking distance from Funchal old town center. I came in July and never felt in a confusion. There are no lines for breakfast, beds always available by the pool. Everything is just amazing. Thanks you to all the staff for making my family experience truly special.”
“Our stay at The Reserve at Savoy Palace was truly unforgettable. We have traveled to many beautiful places, but we have never stayed at a better hotel. We honestly do not think another hotel will ever compare. The quality of the experience, the stunning rooms, the breathtaking views of Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean, and the exceptional staff made every moment impeccable. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and genuinely cared for. Every detail was handled with thoughtfulness and care. The service was personal without ever feeling forced. The team seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even had to ask. The Reserve offers true luxury, but what makes it so special is the warmth and kindness of the people who work there. Breakfast on the 16th floor quickly became one of our favorite parts of each day. Waking up to the panoramic views of the ocean and Funchal was an experience in itself. The peaceful atmosphere, beautiful setting, and wonderful food made each morning feel special. Juan was simply the best. He remembered our preferences, paid attention to every detail, and went above and beyond to make every meal perfect. His genuine warmth and kindness made us feel as though we were being welcomed by a dear friend each morning. Mariana, our personal assistant, was wonderful. She made everything feel effortless and ensured that every part of our stay was taken care of. She was always kind, attentive, and ready to help. Her personal attention made us feel valued rather than simply treated as hotel guests. Christina’s leadership was evident throughout the entire hotel. The exceptional service, attention to detail, and sincere care shown by every member of the team clearly reflected the high standards she has created. She and her staff made us feel genuinely welcomed from beginning to end. The beautiful accommodations, incredible views, exceptional dining, and exclusive amenities made the hotel extraordinary. However, it was the staff and the way they made us feel that turned a wonderful vacation into a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We are especially grateful to our dear friends, and Deo Linda and Joe Caldera, for introducing us to The Reserve. Without them, we may never have discovered such a remarkable place. We will always treasure the memories we made there and feel incredibly fortunate to have shared this unforgettable experience together.”
