Tripplo's verdict, based on guest reviews
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 10 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Niyama Private Islands Maldives works well for families and groups who want variety without leaving the resort. Spread across two private islands, it offers eight distinct restaurants, overwater villas with direct lagoon access, family rooms, and a wellness and watersports programme substantial enough to fill a week. The two-island split lets guests choose a livelier or quieter base depending on mood. The layout is genuinely spread out, though, so transfers between areas on different islands can mean longer walks than at a single-building resort, and dining and activities are priced at a premium.
Guests score it 9.8 out of 10 — the average across the 4 hotels we list on Southern Atolls is 9.8.
What Guests Loved
- Spread across Chill and Play islands, the resort offers seclusion and space rarely found even among Maldivian resorts, with private beach areas fronting turquoise lagoons.
- From Japanese teppanyaki to Middle Eastern grills, the culinary variety allows guests to dine differently each night without leaving the property.
Things to Consider
- Reaching Niyama typically involves a domestic flight followed by a seaplane or speedboat transfer, adding several hours and cost to the journey.
- As with most private island resorts in the Maldives, à la carte dining and excursions carry a premium that can add up over a longer stay.
